Egg Transporter

This egg transporter is capable of delivering an egg a distance of 6 inches horizontally and 2 inches vertically using only mechanical methods. I designed the egg transporter such that the egg could be delivered to a second transporter and would not be damaged throughout the delivery process.

The device functions by taking advantage of stored elastic energy from a rubber band. The cart which is attached to a rubber band is held in place at the start by a wooden tab. When the egg is dropped into the cart, the wooden tab releases the rubber band which allows the cart to transport the egg.

Throughout this project, I learned the basics of design and engineering drawings and experienced the process of prototyping and testing. The iterative process helped me fine-tune the details of the device such that it would be successful on the final testing day. I also learned adaptability. Due to COVID, this project was completed entirely at home which required me to develop a design that the materials I had available could support. If I were to redo the project, I would add attached weight to the base of the device and would reorient the cardboard such that the flute was in long direction.
